Yamila Rodriguez - Head of Activities & Leisure at The Orchards
Fit for the future

I’m originally from Argentina and I’ve been living In the UK for eight years now. I started my journey with Haven in September 2018, and I was the first team member to join Haven as a designate Activities and Leisure Manager. I’d previously worked as a PE teacher in a primary school, and as a fitness manager.

During my training period, which lasted around six months, I visited 15 parks all over the UK and achieved a number of qualifications, including SPTO, FAW, PPO, RLSS TA, NPLQ, and NPMQ.

One of the most memorable moments while working as a designate was presenting my journey at the Haven Conference in 2019, which was a chance to show just how far I’ve come.

I took part in the Next Generation Programme in 2019. The highlight of the course was the inspiring presentation and coaching from Marcus Child, which has heavily influenced my leadership style and the way my department operates today.

I then joined Hafan y Môr as an Activities Manager, where I had the privilege to work on one of the first projects of a Park of the Future.

In October 2019, an opportunity to become the Activities and Leisure Manager at The Orchards presented me with an exciting challenge. Having successfully delivered my KPIs I was promoted to

Head of Activities and took responsibilities for the shop and entertainment in addition to my role in the Leisure department.

I’ve recently become the Wellbeing Champion and have taken on a major challenge, by taking part in the Senior Leaders Professional CMI Programme L7 with Cornel University, fully funded by Haven. I’ve come a long way since leaving Argentina, and I’m looking forward to seeing how far I can take my career at Haven.
