What inspired you to join the WiHTL Ethnic Senior Leaders Programme, and what were your main takeaways?
"I saw this as a fantastic opportunity to grow and contribute to the broader conversation about DE&I. I also enjoy connecting with people, and the programme provides the platform to do just that – connect with other leaders who have their own stories to tell, and this is just so enriching.
I'm just over halfway through the programme, and already noted one of my biggest takeaways – the power of mentorship but also the importance of self-advocacy."
How has the programme influenced your leadership style?
"In summary, it has made me a more intentional leader, leading with purpose and creating opportunities for others. But ultimately, the programme has placed the spotlight on the value of being authentic – leading with who I am rather than who I think I should be."
What challenges or barriers do you think ethnic leaders still face in the workplace, and how can we help break them down?
"One of the biggest challenges is the lack of representation at senior levels, which makes the path less clear for others. Therefore, beyond all the exciting and important initiatives and training for all to embrace DE&I, I would encourage senior leaders to be inspiring mentors but also valuable sponsors."
What advice would you give to someone considering the programme?
"What are you waiting for? The insights you will gain and connections you will make are simply invaluable. I mentioned self-advocacy – well, here is the opportunity to get started. Embrace the opportunity, be open and engaged, and do remember that your perspective is also important."
